 September to April is the best time for hikers, bird-watchers, photographers and nature lovers. This is the rainy season, and the time that more than 250 species of birds can be enjoyed at their best, many of them having immigrated back from the Northern hemisphere, and starting with the breeding process.
The Marekele National Park is a spectacular nature reserve situated in the unspoiled wilderness of the Kransberg, a magnificent mountain range close to Thabazimbi. This is one of the last vestiges for the endangered Cycad Eugene Maraisi and also for the Black rhino, as well as a huge colony of vultures, congregating at the so-called "Palace of Vultures".
